Experience Hamburg!

Wälderhaus Hotel Hamburg - The Location

Located on the Elbe island of Wilhelmsburg, directly at the Wilhelmsburger Inselpark, the Raphael Hotel Wälderhaus offers an optimal starting point to experience Hamburg.

The former garden show grounds have been open to the public since 2013 and offer numerous opportunities for sport, play and relaxation.

Hamburg's city centre and the Alster lake can be easily reached in 9 minutes using the S-Bahn lines. From there, you can reach all other sights in no time by public transport.

Hamburg City and Harbour Tour

Hamburg City and Harbour Tour

To get a first impression of Hamburg, start your discovery tour with a city tour on the red double-decker buses.

They start their journey at the main station, which you can reach comfortably with the S3 line from the Wilhelmsburg S-Bahn station - within approx. 15 minutes.  Alternatively, the buses also start at Landungsbrücken, which can be reached within 25 minutes with the S3 line. The double-decker buses take you past the city's most important sights: Alster, City Hall, Speicherstadt, HafenCity and Reeperbahn. You can also buy a combined ticket on the bus and not only use the red double-decker buses all day, but also take a harbour tour. Interrupt your city tour at the Landungsbrücken and get a taste of the harbour air on a harbour tour!

Let the wind blow around your nose while your expert captain tells you all about the harbour, ships and cargo!

Hamburg's Speicherstadt

Hamburg's Speicherstadt

The Speicherstadt Hamburg is one of the most popular sights of the Elbe metropolis and can be reached within 30 minutes with the S3 line. The largest connected warehouse complex in the world was declared a World Heritage Site in 2015 and was built as a section of the Port of Hamburg as early as 1883.

Even today, the scent of the big wide world seems to hover over the old warehouses. Built on ancient oak piles, the six- to seven-storey brick buildings once served as duty-free storage facilities for coffee, cocoa, tobacco, tea and high-quality general cargo. They represent the world's largest contiguous warehouse complex. The old Speicherstadt can be easily explored from both land and water.

Let yourself be enchanted by this more than hundred-year-old district and get to know one of Hamburg's most popular tourist destinations!

Hamburg fish market

Hamburg fish market

You can reach the Hamburg fish market within 30 minutes on the S3 line.

From fish, fruit, tropical plants and clothes to live chickens or entire duck families, a wide variety of goods are traded at the Hamburg fish market. The main attraction is the market criers. Allegedly, the loudly shouting traders can be heard all the way to the Reeperbahn and it is not uncommon for a piece of fruit to fly through the air.

Most of the time, another fish is packed on top or an extra piece of sausage is advertised until a buyer is found for the goods. Many go home with heavy bags full of fish and fruit, but even without the intention of finding bargains, a visit to the Hamburg fish market is worthwhile. For example, for a breakfast of fish rolls, a morning view across the Elbe to Hamburg harbour or simply to experience the spectacle of the market.

Opening hours:

Summer season April to October: every Sunday 5:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Winter season November to March: every Sunday 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Miniature Wonderland

Miniature Wonderland

You can reach the Miniatur Wunderland within about 30 minutes on the S3 line. So that you don't have to wait so long, it's worth booking your ticket in advance via the Internet.

The world's largest model railway consists of 15 kilometres of track on more than 1,500 square metres of exhibition space, which is constantly being expanded. Some 1,040 digital trains run on the rail network, controlled by 50 computers.

These dimensions not only delight model railway fans, but also amaze adults and children alike!

Hamburg Dungeon

Hamburg Dungeon

The Hamburg Dungeon, located in the Speicherstadt, can be reached within 30 minutes by taking the S3 line.

In 90 minutes, you will experience a journey through Hamburg's history, which will provide you with interesting facts about the city's past as well as scary fun. You will experience the dark sides of the Hanseatic city in 11 shows.

Two rides, modern multivision effects and costumed actors will take you on a journey through 600 years of Hamburg's history!

Elbphilharmonie

Elbphilharmonie

You can reach Hamburg's newest landmark - the Elbphilharmonie - within 30 minutes by taking the S3 line to Hauptbahnhof and then the U3 underground line to Baumwall.

The historic Kaispeicher A forms the base above which the crystalline, curved new building rises. From the main entrance, Europe's longest escalator, the "Tube", leads 82 metres up to the 6th floor of the Kaispeicher. Once here, probably the most beautiful window to the Elbe awaits you: a huge panoramic pane opens up a wonderful view over the Landungsbrücken and the harbour. Also on this level is the entrance to the Störtebeker restaurant.

On the 8th floor between the Kaispeicher and the glass superstructure is the so-called Plaza. At a height of 37 metres, the visitor is offered a circular walkway on the outer edge of the building, which provides a unique view of the city and the harbour on all sides. The stairways to the concert halls, the hotel lobby, the Elbphilharmonie Shop and the Deck & Deli are also located on the central platform.

St. Michael's Church

St. Michael's Church

What would a short holiday in Hamburg be without a visit to Hamburg's St Michael's? The church of St. Michaelis is one of the most beautiful baroque churches in northern Germany and can be reached by taking the S3 line to the Stadthausbrücke stop and then a ten-minute walk. Its tower, with its copper dome, is the city's landmark.

Those who don't shy away from the steps to the viewing platform will be rewarded with a magnificent view of the Hamburg skyline!

Reeperbahn & St. Pauli

Reeperbahn & St. Pauli

The Reeperbahn is the hub of Hamburg's nightlife in the St. Pauli district. For as Hans Albers already sang: "On the Reeperbahn at half past twelve at night, whether you've got a girl or not, you'll have a good time, because that's what you'll find, on the Reeperbahn at half past twelve at night".

Hamburg's most famous district, St. Pauli, is also definitely worth a detour! Discover this fascinating and colourful district, which has much more to offer besides the Reeperbahn as an amusement mile with numerous theatres, pubs, bars and discos! Well-known places like Hans-Albers-Platz and the Große Freiheit alternate with historical sideshows in small side streets where the past of the working-class quarter can still be traced today.

Reeperbahn & St. Pauli can be reached in 25 minutes with the S3 line.

A guided tour can bring you closer to all facets of the dazzling neighbourhood life in an exciting mix of culture and history!
